Accreditors Start to Endorse Short-Term Credential Providers
"to expand the nation's pool of valuable, HLC endorsed providers, thereby increasing pathways for students to gain the qualifications they need to get ahead and succeed."
"We know that there are increasing numbers of students enrolled in non-credit programs,"
"There has also been a growing need for quality assurance in this space. NECHE has taken the bold step to address this need and we are excited to expand our work into this area."
The Higher Learning Commission is launching a new process to evaluate and endorse short-term credential providers and will accept applications for its first cohort through Jan. 23. HLC aims to expand the nation's pool of valuable, HLC-endorsed providers, increasing pathways for students to gain qualifications needed to get ahead and succeed. The New England Commission of Higher Education announced an inaugural cohort of eight recognized noncredit program providers, including higher education institutions and external organizations. NECHE identified rising enrollment in noncredit programs and a growing need for quality assurance and is expanding its work into that area.
