De Anza College recognized for championing student transfers
"Cupertino's De Anza College in Cupertino has been named a Pathway Champion for 2025 for its efforts in ensuring that students are on the path to transfer to a four-year university. The Campaign for College Opportunity, a statewide research and advocacy group, awarded De Anza top rankings among California community colleges for student success in completing transfer-level math and English in academic year 2023-24."
"The nonprofit compiles the rankings to recognize community colleges that are helping students reach their goals through "equitable course placement practices," following the passage of state legislation in 2018 requiring community colleges to move away from traditional placement methods that led many students to spend time in remedial courses before they could take transfer-level math and English. In response to that legislation, De Anza developed new assessment practices, curriculum and other services that support students in completing those college-level courses."
Cupertino's De Anza College earned Pathway Champion recognition for 2025 for efforts ensuring students progress toward transfer to four-year universities. The Campaign for College Opportunity ranked De Anza third statewide for students completing transfer-level math within one year (78.8%) and second for Black students completing transfer-level English within one year (82.6%) in 2023-24. The nonprofit bases rankings on equitable course placement practices following 2018 state legislation that ended traditional remedial placement. De Anza implemented new assessments, curriculum, and services to support completion of college-level math and English. Separately, the Cupertino Historical Society will host a Tavern Talk on Nov. 12 celebrating Florentine's Trattoria's 61st anniversary.
