Grindr launches 36-piece fashion line made from the wool of 'gay sheep'
"Many creatures exhibit same-sex behaviour but gay rams are often sent to slaughter because they can't fulfil their "breeding role." However, Rainbow Wool is now giving them a loving home. On average, one in every 12 sheep is thought to be gay. "We rescue them before that happens, giving them a safe home where they can live and love freely. Each year, their wool is crafted into fashion, with profits donated to the queer charity LSVD+," a spokesperson for the farm said."
""It's been a pleasure to create this light-hearted collection that also addresses a very serious topic," he said. "The mistreatment of animals that exhibit same-sex attraction is a painful reminder of the prejudice that continues to affect LGBT communities worldwide. "Hopefully, by illustrating that homosexuality exists throughout the animal kingdom, we can help put to bed the false and damaging notion that being gay is a choice.""
Grindr launched "I Wool Survive," a 36-piece collection designed by Michael Schmidt using wool from gay rams rescued by German nonprofit Rainbow Wool. Rainbow Wool shelters rams exhibiting same-sex behaviour who are often slaughtered for not fulfilling breeding roles, and it transforms their annual shearing into fashion items with profits donated to the queer charity LSVD+. The collection reimagines gay archetypes in wool and was showcased in New York. Grindr pledged continued support through 2026 and offers an adoption program to cover the rescued rams' food and medical costs, aiming to normalize homosexuality across species.
