Purged trans Space Force colonel says she'll keep fighting for democracy out of uniform - LGBTQ Nation
"I'm still grieving over the loss of what I believed my future was,"
"I invested almost 23 years in the service. And I absolutely believed in what the military stood for, believed in my oath to the Constitution, and I worked on amazing things with incredible people. I loved what I did."
"Seeing that institutional step backwards... is incredibly disheartening,"
A high-ranking transgender member of the Space Force expressed deep grief over the loss of an envisioned military career after nearly 23 years of service. The service member described strong belief in military values, the Constitution, and meaningful work with colleagues. The current administration reinstated a ban on transgender service via the executive order "Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness," and Defense leadership issued a memo halting gender-affirming care. The Supreme Court allowed the policy to take effect and set deadlines for trans troops to self-identify for voluntary separation. The officer is currently on leave and was prohibited from presenting in uniform.
