"This new system represents a step forward in ensuring timely, consistent and efficient communication between the court and law enforcement," he said, "helping to remove firearms from individuals who are legally prohibited from possessing them."
"streamlines interagency communications by providing justice partners with a centralized list of relevant cases for review"
"to view all firearm relinquishment restraining order violations within their jurisdiction,"
Los Angeles County automated court notifications to law enforcement to alert agencies when judges order individuals to surrender firearms for restraining order violations. Previously, court clerks manually identified which of the county's 88 law enforcement agencies to notify by looking up addresses for the accused, a process that could take multiple days. The new platform sends notices within minutes to the appropriate agencies and centralizes interagency communications. The Judicial Council of California funded the system with a $4.12 million grant in coordination with the sheriff, district attorney, Los Angeles Police Department and city attorney offices. A new law enforcement portal provides a centralized list of relevant cases and allows agencies to view all firearm relinquishment restraining order violations within their jurisdiction, aiding efforts to remove firearms from legally prohibited individuals.
