Joe Kent, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, announced his resignation on Tuesday, stating he cannot ethically support the Trump administration's military actions against Iran. Kent asserted that Iran posed no imminent threat to the United States and that the war resulted from pressure by Israel and its American lobbying interests. Kent, confirmed to his position in July on a narrow 52-44 vote, previously served as a Green Beret with 11 military deployments and worked at the CIA. He also ran two unsuccessful congressional campaigns in Washington state before joining the Trump administration.
