Five councillors leave Labour for Greens
""Green surge""
""Labour has abandoned any sense of progressive politics and is showing absolute cowardice in its doomed attempt to out-Reform Reform with the politics of division and scapegoating.""
Five councillors on Brent Council defected from Labour to the Green Party, bringing Green representation on the council to five seats while Labour retains overall control. The Labour group now has 44 councillors. The Conservatives hold five councillors and the Liberal Democrats hold three. The councillors who joined the Greens are Harbi Farah and Mary Mitchell (Welsh Harp), Iman Ahmadi Moghaddam (Wembley Park), Tony Ethapemi (Stonebridge) and Erica Gbajumo (Brondesbury Park). Green Party leader Zack Polanski described the defections as part of a "Green surge" in London and criticised Labour's politics. Across London the Greens now hold 41 of more than 1,800 borough councillor seats. Labour has been approached for comment.
