Traffic wardens to strike over 50p pay rise offer
"Management keeps trying to divide us and have even said they'll bring workers in from other contracts if we take action. That just makes us more determined to stick together."
"That means our so-called pay rise is basically coming out of our own pockets."
"We believe our offer was a fair one. We remain open to continued constructive discussions to reach a resolution and avoid any action."
GMB members working as parking enforcement officers in Bromley voted unanimously for industrial action after 97% rejected APCOA's 50p-an-hour pay offer. Traffic wardens currently earn £12.21 per hour, below the London Living Wage of £13.85, and APCOA proposed increasing pay to £12.71. GMB has demanded a meaningful, backdated pay offer and will give notice of industrial action unless progress is made. Staff criticised management for attempting to divide workers and threatening to bring in staff from other contracts. APCOA said the offer was fair and remained open to discussions; the council said it is hopeful for a positive outcome.
