Man Utd youngster Devaney making impact with St Mirren
"The Barnsley-born Republic of Ireland international went against club wishes to accept the chance to join St Mirren for the second half of the season. A number of team-mates from the United Under-21 side he captained in the first half of the campaign have struggled for regular appearances during their loan moves into the senior game."
Jacob Devaney, an 18-year-old Manchester United midfielder on loan at St Mirren, aimed to use the loan spell as a learning step in Scottish senior football. He accepted the move against club wishes after conversations with United youth staff and academy leadership identified loan experience as the next step. Devaney started his 13th match against Kilmarnock, with interim manager Craig McLeish trusting him to operate in midfield despite his age. St Mirren’s 3-0 home defeat left them four points behind Kilmarnock ahead of a trip to Aberdeen. Devaney expressed satisfaction with how the loan has gone and said the St Mirren opportunity arrived late on deadline day.
