""Used to be, I walk into a place and I'm looking for exits. I'm watching everybody. I'm just not trusting anything that's going on and with him, I'm just all that seems to have gone away,""
""He was hitting me in the chest. He wasn't coming up to my face. He was, he was literally hitting me in the chest,""
Hank Ford is a former U.S. Army and Marine living with PTSD who spends much time alone. He received a service dog, Tommy, two years ago from Dogs, Inc., and Tommy wakes him daily. One February morning Tommy barked, climbed on him, pawed and pushed his chest, prompting Ford to drive to the hospital. Doctors found atrial fibrillation and said without Tommy's intervention Ford likely would not have woken and might have had a massive stroke. Ford received overnight shock treatment, later a cardiac ablation and medication, and reports feeling much better. Dogs, Inc. also trains guide dogs and will offer blood-sugar–detecting dogs beginning in 2026.
