Citywest violence: Gardai prepare for five more days of disorder as locals opposed to asylum centre tell protesters 'stay home'

"Get home early and stay indoors. We are only distracting the gardaí, putting ourselves at risk and prolonging the tension. Remember, it is the government that have let us down and we will not stop our legitimate campaigning. We need to direct this at them in the right way and avoid putting innocent bystanders at risk from rioting and arrest."

"It came after the senior garda overseeing the policing response to the Citywest riots has said the operation will continue for the next five days as they brace for further protests tonight. Chief Superintendent Michael McNulty also said that an assessment of intelligence and activity over the coming days will determine if they escalate or de-escalate the policing response after that period."

"Over 30 people have been arrested following two days of violence in Saggart, west Dublin in the wake of the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in the area. Hundreds of people have been gathering outside the former Citywest Hotel, which is now used to house international protection applicants, in response to that incident. More than 300 gardaí have been deployed each night, including the public order unit, with four gardaí hospitalised during the course of the violence."

Public order gardaí with riot shields will be deployed for a third night in response to violent incidents in Saggart, west Dublin. Over 30 people have been arrested across two nights, with 23 appearing before the District Court. Four gardaí were hospitalised after receiving injuries during the disturbances. Five boys aged under 18 were arrested and later released. Authorities seized 15 e-scooters and e-bikes during operations. More than 300 gardaí have been deployed each night, including the public order unit. Community campaigners urged people to take a break from protesting and to stay home to avoid further tension.
