"The man - who is aged in his 30s - suffered stab injuries following a dispute at a house off Noonan's Road near Greenmount, less than 1km from Cork city centre. Gardaí were alerted to the incident which is understood to have occurred around 11.45pm on Monday night. Paramedics and gardaí attended the scene after they received a phone call alerting them to what had happened. Neighbours reported hearing loud noises consistent with an ongoing dispute."
"Over the past five years, gardaí have seized almost 19,000 knives. That represents a 28pc increase in knife and blade seizures compared to the previous five year period of 2015-2019. While knife seizures were slightly down in 2024 - 2,100 seizures compared to 2,193 in 2023 - the overall seizure rate is up by an alarming 60pc over the past decade."

The injured man was treated at the property then taken to Cork University Hospital with suspected stab wounds; his injuries are not understood to be life threatening. Gardaí are investigating and following a definite line of inquiry; the main suspect is known to the injured party. Gardaí hope to interview the man when medically fit. This was the fourth stabbing in Cork in three weeks. Over the past five years gardaí seized almost 19,000 knives, a 28pc increase versus 2015-2019, and a 60pc rise over the past decade. Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has vowed new legislation to expand stop-and-search powers.
