"I really, really wanted to continue the fight,"
"I was first angry because I don't want him to stop the fight. After I was disappointed, sad, and after apologetic for the people."
An accidental double eye poke late in round one prevented champion Tom Aspinall from continuing, producing a No Contest at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi. Ciryl Gane started aggressively, defended takedowns, and found success with his jab, causing visible blood on Aspinall's nose. The stoppage provoked anger and disappointment among fans and fighters. Gane expressed that he wanted the fight to continue, said he felt angry then disappointed and apologetic toward fans, and noted personal understanding of eye-poke injuries from a previous bout with Derrick Lewis.
