"A cover of a song he wrote sounds awfully like him describing a Metallica song. The guitarist was kicked out of Metallica and replaced with Kirk Hammett before the recording of their 1983 debut, Kill 'Em All, but his songwriting is credited on four of those tunes. While he was long out of the band by 1984's Ride the Lightning, he is credited with co-writing the title track and 'The Call of Ktulu' on that album."
"The inclusion of 'Ride the Lightning' falls in line with a hint Mustaine gave in an interview with the Norwegian radio program Stjernepose in June, saying, 'We have 13 new songs for the new album... One of the songs is a cover song but I actually wrote it, so it's kind of like a cover, kind of like my song.'"
"Other song titles on the upcoming Megadeth album, which arrives January 23rd, include the recent lead single, 'Tipping Point,' as well as 'I Don't Care,' 'Hey God?!,' 'Let There Be Shred,' 'Puppet Parade,' 'Another Bad Day,' 'Made to Kill,' and 'Obey the Call.' Fans can catch Megadeth when they support Iron Maiden on a recently announced 2026 North American tour. A Live Nation ticket pre-sale started today, October 29th,"
Megadeth will include a newly recorded version of Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" on their self-titled final album, confirming a cover of a song co-written by Dave Mustaine. Megadeth teased the tracklist and later confirmed the inclusion. The album contains 13 tracks and is scheduled for release on January 23rd. Other confirmed songs include "Tipping Point," "I Don't Care," "Hey God?!," "Let There Be Shred," "Puppet Parade," "Another Bad Day," "Made to Kill," and "Obey the Call." Mustaine was dismissed from Metallica before their debut and holds songwriting credits on several early Metallica tracks. Megadeth will support Iron Maiden on a 2026 North American tour with a Live Nation presale starting October 29.
