Helado Negro and Reyna Tropical Team Up for Helado Tropical
"“There was never a moment where we felt super stuck. It was just like 'ok what's next?' and even within the songs, trying to create these micro worlds-we just felt excited about each moment.... It's not about us speaking to each other. It's about us existing in the same feeling.”"
"“This particular album really was able to ground me in what movement means to me and just different characters that the range of movement, travel, environment-sun, wind, and water-has the potential to bring out.”"
"Helado Negro has joined forces with Reyna Tropical, the Los Angeles project of founder and sometime Sleater-Kinney tour guitarist Fabi Reyna, for a new album. Reyna and the ever-affable Roberto Carlos Lange trot around a grocery store in the Josh Finck-directed video for lead single “Tocando,” which you can watch below, ahead of Helado Tropical's release on July 17 via Psychic Hotline."
"The album emerged from a session originally intended to make a single, the duo explains in a press release. Says Lange, “There was never a moment where we felt super stuck. It was just like 'ok what's next?' and even within the songs, trying to create these micro worlds-we just felt excited about each moment.... It's not about us speaking to each other. It's about us existing in the same feeling.”"
Helado Negro teamed up with Reyna Tropical, the Los Angeles project led by Fabi Reyna, for a new album. The lead single “Tocando” comes with a Josh Finck-directed video featuring Reyna and Roberto Carlos Lange moving through a grocery store. The album grew from a session meant to produce a single, with Lange describing an easy creative flow and a focus on building micro worlds within the songs. Lange frames the collaboration as sharing the same feeling rather than speaking to each other. Reyna connects the album to movement, travel, and environments shaped by sun, wind, and water. Two California performances are scheduled for August 13 in Los Angeles and August 15 in San Francisco, with additional tour dates to follow.
