Miss World Chile Contestant Stuns Judges with Death Metal Performance
"Metal has been a fundamental part of who I am as a person and in my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose,"
"Being able to express it on stage at Chilevision and Miss Mundo Chile was an opportunity I deeply value. It was a great experience to break down barriers on open television, inspire, be real with it, and show that you don't have to fear the prejudices of others."
"I'm not trying to fit in. I'm trying to show myself as I am."
During the Miss World Chile semi-finals on November 2, 27-year-old model and singer Ignacia Fernández performed a death metal track with her band Decessus, accompanied by guitarist Carlos Palma. Her guttural vocals contrasted with a black gown and impressed judges, earning her a Top 20 spot for the finals airing November 9. Fernández described metal as a refuge and source of strength and said performing on Chilevision allowed her to break barriers and confront prejudice. Fernández co-founded Decessus in 2020; the band has opened for Insomnium and Jinjer and released the song "Dark Flames" in September.
