Watch Soundgarden Perform at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2025 Induction Ceremony
""When I heard Soundgarden for the first time, I wasn't just excited," Carrey shared. "I wanted to put a flannel shirt on and run into the streets screaming, 'My mother smoked during pregnancy!'""
""I know how much purpose that gave him, and how much it's meant to people who have heard that music. That's what I'll be holding in my heart tonight.""
""Chris Cornell, we are so missing you tonight on this stage," Yamamoto said. "Thanks to my parents, whose story as American citizens who were rounded up and placed into prison camps, just for being Japanese during World War II-well, that affected my life greatly, and it really echoes strongly today. Let's not add another story like this to our history.""
Soundgarden were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, with Jim Carrey delivering the induction. The band performed "Rusty Cage" and "Black Hole Sun" alongside Brandi Carlile, Taylor Momsen, and members of Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. Toni Cornell performed an acoustic rendition of "Fell on Black Days" accompanied by Nancy Wilson. Carrey recounted being gifted Chris Cornell's guitar after a 1996 Saturday Night Live appearance and shared a memorable reaction to the band's music. Lily Cornell reflected on the purpose the music gave her father, and band members offered speeches, including Hiro Yamamoto's reference to his parents' World War II internment experience.
