A fire erupted just after 3:40 p.m. on May 11 at 2609 Bainbridge Ave. in Fordham, starting on the second floor. When firefighters arrived, they found three young children seriously injured and rushed them to Saint Barnabas Hospital. Hospital staff later pronounced a one-year-old boy dead, while the other two children were listed in critical condition. At least five other people were also injured and taken to the hospital, where they were expected to survive. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at around 4:40 p.m. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and updates are expected from FDNY.
