"As part of New York State Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani's mayoral candidate campaign tour, over the weekend, he hit up so many Brooklyn bars, clubs, and dance parties. Saturday ranged from Gabriela and Caribbean Social Club in Williamsburg to Damballa and Mood Ring in Bushwick, along with queer and trans dance party Papi Juice. On Sunday, he went to the New York Marathon to root for people outside of Greenpoint cocktail bar Eavesdrop."
"Cake Picnic, the epic dessert-filled feast that hops around the country, is making its New York City stop this month. It's essential a huge cake potluck where attendees bring their sweet concoctions to share with others. A requirement is that the desserts are "decorated beautifully." While the NYC Cake Picnic is taking place on Saturday, November 8, in Brooklyn, it's, alas, sold out already. However, people can volunteer to help and attend. There's also going to be a cookie version on Saturday, December 13."
"Due to the ongoing government shutdown, the United States Department of Agriculture froze funds for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ( SNAP) as of Saturday, November 1. The benefits program typically offers money to 1.8 million New Yorkers to help pay for food and groceries. Three days later, a federal judge is forcing the Trump administration to resume funding SNAP, but it'll be only half of the full funds."
Zohran Mamdani visited numerous Brooklyn bars, clubs, and dance parties during a weekend campaign tour, including Gabriela, Caribbean Social Club, Damballa, Mood Ring, and queer and trans party Papi Juice. He cheered marathon runners outside Eavesdrop and later watched the Buffalo Bills with Governor Kathy Hochul at Murphy's in Astoria. Cake Picnic is stopping in Brooklyn on November 8 as a large, decorated cake potluck that is sold out but allows volunteers; a cookie event is set for December 13 and a Radio Bakery collaboration on November 9 will offer passionfruit vanilla and tiramisu by the slice. The USDA froze SNAP funds on November 1, a judge ordered a partial resumption three days later, and restaurants are stepping in to help fill benefit gaps.
