Thunder's Topic in treatment for testicular cancer
""extremely positive""
""Our only expectations for him are to focus on this," Presti said. "This is his most important priority. He'll be back playing basketball when he's able to, but we're not putting any time length or expectations on that, obviously. He has our total support, encouragement and love.""
""He's doing great given the circumstances, which is unsurprising," Daigneault said. "Sam [Presti] mentioned this today, but there's no one at 20 years old more equipped with the maturity and discipline and toughness to handle a situation like this than he is.""
Nikola Topic, a 20-year-old Serbian guard and the No. 12 pick in the 2024 draft, has begun chemotherapy following a testicular cancer diagnosis. He underwent a biopsy in early October at MD Anderson Cancer Center and asked the Thunder to delay public disclosure until chemotherapy had started. Doctors are described as extremely positive about his long-term outlook. Topic sat out last season recovering from a torn ACL but has been able to work out while beginning treatment. The Oklahoma City Thunder have placed no timetable on his NBA debut and emphasize his health as the top priority.
