Nick Mangold died at age 41 from complications of chronic kidney disease. He disclosed a 2006 diagnosis of a genetic defect that led to chronic kidney disease and said he was undergoing dialysis while seeking a kidney transplant. He expressed gratitude to his family and requested a donor with type O blood. Jets owner Woody Johnson praised his leadership, toughness, and character, calling him the heartbeat of the offensive line. Mangold spent his entire 11-year NFL career with the Jets, made seven Pro Bowls, earned multiple All-Pro honors, retired in 2016, and was inducted into the team's Ring of Honor in 2022.
