"Tom Wilson is telling Erik Gudbranson, 'I'd be banned for life if I threw that hit,' Shelley said. 'Pretty much saying that was dirty, and it is a five-minute major. Gudbranson, on the other side of the argument, is saying, 'He barely touched him and now he's back in the game.' That's just the chatter down here on the bench.'"
"Tom Wilson came on the ice to chat with him, and Olivier simply said, 'If you want me to stand up for that, I will. If you want to address it, I will. I'll fight you, but I kept my elbow down and had no intent of hi"
Mathieu Olivier received a five-minute major for elbowing Declan Chisholm in the third period after officials reviewed the hit. Chisholm left the ice holding his face but later returned and helped quarterback Washington's second power-play unit. Columbus coach Dean Evason and Olivier protested the call, and Olivier was seen arguing in the penalty box that he did not use his elbow. The Capitals scored two power-play goals by Tom Wilson and Connor McMichael during the extended man advantage to seal the game. Bench confrontations and audible commentary followed the play.
