Washington Capitals attend Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL game during off day, meet up with Super Bowl-winning coach Jon Gruden
""Washington Caps in town!" Gruden tweeted. "Great guts!! The one and only Ovechkin!!!""
""When I first came [to DC], I did not understand what baseball, American football is," Ovechkin said in 2023. "It took me five to six years to understand at least some rules. And now I really love going to games, I love watching matches. It's really exciting. They are just machines. They run very fast.""
""I especially love it when we come with a big group before the start of the game, kebabs, burgers. They love to do it all.""
The Washington Capitals remained in Florida after a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning and spent their day off attending the Buccaneers-Patriots game at Raymond James Stadium. Nearly the entire roster, including Alex Ovechkin, Tom Wilson, Martin Fehervary, Anthony Beauvillier and others, watched the game from a suite where Jon Gruden posed for a photo with the group. John Carlson, Jakob Chychrun and Justin Sourdif were not in the photo. Ovechkin has become a regular at football games, describing how he learned the sport over several years and now enjoys attending with teammates.
