New moment of silence to be added to 9/11 commemoration ceremony this year
"“As we mark the 25th anniversary, adding this moment of silence ensures that we never forget every life lost on that day and in the years since.”"
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum will add a new moment of silence to its 25th commemoration ceremony for the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in New York City, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. The added silence will honor people who died from health effects of 9/11 and its aftermath. For 24 years, the ceremony has included six moments of silence marking key times when the World Trade Center towers were struck and fell, and when the Pentagon was attacked and United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania. Thousands of first responders, rescue and recovery workers, relief workers, and community members have died from 9/11-related illnesses. Michael Bloomberg emphasized that impacts continued for years, and adding the moment ensures every life lost is remembered.
