"Starting May 2026, we're rolling out a new way to qualify your phone call leads. Instead of only relying on call duration, Google AI will automatically evaluate call leads to help you identify high-quality potential customers and optimize your ad spend."
Google will automatically set the “Call recording” preference to “Yes” for applicable advertisers starting July 1, 2026 if no selection is made. Advertisers must change the setting to “No” before June 30, 2026 to prevent automatic enabling and to avoid consenting to the associated Call ads Supplemental Terms. Even after auto-enablement, call recording can be turned off at any time through account settings. Google also states that starting May 2026 it will use Google AI to qualify phone call leads, moving beyond call duration alone to evaluate lead quality and optimize ad spend.
