Tedd Schonsheck is a U.S. Army Veteran from Pinehurst who feels a strong connection with his dog, Dougie. Dougie is intuitive and matches his energy, providing constant companionship as Schonsheck goes everywhere with him. After leaving the military Schonsheck struggled with reintegration despite having built a family with fellow service members. Schonsheck's wife found the nonprofit Paws for Heroes, which arranged a no-cost match between Schonsheck and a shelter dog. The match provided mutual rescue; Dougie and Schonsheck rescued each other. Paws for Heroes' mission is to pair veterans with shelter dogs at no cost to support veteran well-being and animal placement.
