Scammers impersonate banks to trick people into sending money or revealing account details. Google is rolling out an Android security feature that detects spoofed financial calls. The feature requires installing the bank’s app on the Android device. When a call appears to come from the bank, Android queries the bank’s app to confirm whether the call is legitimate. If the app indicates no one from the bank is calling, Android disconnects the call. Some banks can also mark certain phone numbers as inbound-only, and spoofing from those numbers will be automatically ended. Google is working with select banks and financial institutions, with rollout starting on Android 11 or higher.
