The arrest has been framed by Minnesota's governor as targeted political violence, prompting concerns about rising extremism in relation to partisanship. Trump Jr.'s comments were made during a podcast, wherein he suggested the shooter was leftist and politically motivated, despite no evidence supporting his claims.
Following Boelter's arrest, Trump Jr made the baseless comments about the trans community during a discussion with right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson.
State governor Tim Walz described the incidents as targeted political violence, of which he stated, 'it’s a dark day for Minnesota and for democracy'.
