Spice 1, born Robert Lee Greene Jr., emerged in the Oakland and Hayward rap scenes during the 1980s. Early inspiration came from Ice-T and the films Breakin' and Rappin'. As a teenager he joined Too Short's circle, became part of the Dangerous Crew and signed with Jive Records. He released six albums with Jive in the 1990s and has maintained a prolific career with more than 20 albums overall. He continues releasing music, most recently Platinum O.G. 2. Anecdotes include his trademark "OG nap" and a memorable first phone call and pickup arranged by Too Short.
