Who is new Supervisor Beya Alcaraz? And what does District 4 think?
"accountable leadership"
"My first reaction was 'Who is that?'"
"People are definitely disappointed. There are lots of community leaders who did lots of work in the Sunset, who are ready to take the job."
"Representing District 4 on the Board of Supervisors is a major leap for someone without experience navigating the complex and often contentious issues facing San Francisco,"
Isabella 'Beya' Alcaraz, a 29-year-old lifelong Sunset resident, was sworn in as San Francisco District 4 supervisor on her birthday. She has no prior city government or campaign experience and previously owned a pet shop and taught art and music. The appointment follows the recall of prior supervisor Joel Engardio over his support for closing the Great Highway. Mayor Daniel Lurie praised her roots and sought accountable leadership. Community reactions ranged from surprise and disappointment among recall supporters to praise for local roots, while observers warned the role presents a steep learning curve.
