SF Giants hire former manager Bochy as special adviser to baseball operations

"The Giants announced on Monday morning that they have hired Bochy, a future Hall of Famer who won three World Series titles in San Francisco, as a special adviser to baseball operations. I couldn't be more excited to reconnect with the Giants organization and so many familiar faces, Bochy said in a press release. This organization and city mean a lot to me and my family, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute in any way I can."

His experience, leadership, and feel for the game are unmatched, and his perspective will be invaluable as we continue building towards sustained success. Posey consulted Bochy and Dusty Baker, a fellow future Hall of Famer who's currently a special adviser to baseball operations, prior to hiring new manager Tony Vitello."

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Dusty and for Boch, Posey said. They came away feeling very positive about the person. It's like I mentioned before, there's going to be uncertainties and risks in any hire. This one's probably more than a lot of other places we could've gone, but I'm betting on the person. Bochy, 70, served as the Giants' manager for 13 seasons from 2007-19, winning three World Series titles in '10, '12 and '14."

Buster Posey initially said he did not plan to bring Bruce Bochy back as manager but left the door open for another role. The Giants hired Bochy as a special adviser to baseball operations. Bochy said he was excited to reconnect with the organization, called the city meaningful to his family, and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute. Posey praised Bochy's experience, leadership, and feel for the game and said his perspective will help build sustained success. Posey consulted Bochy and Dusty Baker before hiring Tony Vitello, and Vitello can regularly consult both veteran managers. Bochy managed the Giants from 2007-19 and won three World Series.
