A young French skier died after an avalanche swept through the north face of Aiguille du Plan in the Mont Blanc Massif. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on May 9 as three skiers aged 20 to 25 descended the steep face. The group triggered an avalanche while moving through the terrain, and one skier was swept away. Rescue teams later found the skier dead at the bottom of the face. The other two skiers were stranded midway down and could not continue safely. Both were evacuated by helicopter with assistance and transported for evaluation. All three had avalanche transceivers. The accident followed another fatal avalanche on May 8 in the Écrins massif, raising France’s seasonal death toll to 34.
