Republic of Ireland will 'wait and see' over Ferguson fitness
"Let's wait and see. We were hopeful for both games but the Portugal one is going to come round too quick,"
"We were fully aware it was going to be a close call. Johnny's coming in full of confidence on the back of that but let's wait and see. Martin [O'Neill, Celtic manager] has a great record of giving young hungry players a chance and obviously if Johnny's doing everything right in training and getting the chance to show it in the games, it's brilliant to see. He's obviously in a good bit of form."
"I thought the team as a unit and the defence in particular did brilliantly in the duels and the cross"
Evan Ferguson was ruled out of the Portugal match with an ankle injury but remains under assessment for the Hungary qualifier as the squad adopts a wait-and-see approach. Celtic striker Johnny Kenny, 22, was called up as cover after scoring four goals under Martin O'Neill. Ferguson has scored three of Ireland's four qualifying goals to date. Republic of Ireland sit third in Group F, six points behind Portugal and one behind Hungary. Results so far include a draw with Hungary, a defeat in Armenia, a late loss in Portugal, and a home win over Armenia.
