Why are leading figures swapping FA tanker' for US multi-club speedboat'?
"On Wednesday, Bay Collective announced the recruitment of England's general manager under Sarina Wiegman, Anja van Ginhoven, as their director of global women's football operations. The new multi-club ownership body, with San Francisco's Bay FC the first club in its portfolio, has previous in recruiting from the Football Association. The appointment this year of Kay Cossington, the influential former FA technical director, as the chief executive was a signal of intent from Bay Collective."
"Stepping away has been a shock to the system, but I'd taken my decision to leave the FA quite a long time ago, Van Ginhoven says. I had a contract for four years, just as Arjan and Sarina did. When they renewed, I had already said I didn't know whether I would. I was already used to the whole idea that post-Euros I wouldn't be part of England any more."
Anja van Ginhoven has been appointed director of global women's football operations by Bay Collective, with San Francisco's Bay FC as the first club in its portfolio. Bay Collective has recruited senior figures from the Football Association, including Kay Cossington as chief executive. Van Ginhoven is the third core member of Sarina Wiegman's setup to depart this year, following Cossington and assistant manager Arjan Veurink. Van Ginhoven had decided to leave the FA well before Euro 2025 and had a four-year contract similar to her colleagues. The Euros were emotional, and Van Ginhoven expressed pride in England's success and divided loyalties after previous Netherlands achievements.
