"'We've been doing this monthly in LA all year, so it's become a new, upgraded version of Paulie's Dinner,' said Costabile. Basically, the main difference is that we have stand-up, we have characters come out, and then I'm also adding interviews to the format. I've been an interviewer as long as anything. This is kind of my love letter to late-night television, late-night interviews and how they used to be."
"I have the best stand-up comedians around. Truly, this is probably the best deal we've ever had in New York. I have some voice people coming and doing impressions that have surprises, said Costabile. We're creating this late-night comedy show but it feels like theater. My hope for this is that people are coming back to that old school raw entertainment thing that you can only get in the moment."
Early Late Nite returns to New York City on Nov. 13 as part of the New York Comedy Festival, offering a new take on an old-school variety show. The show evolved from Paulie's Dinner and has been running monthly in Los Angeles. The format combines stand-up, character performances, and added interviews, hosted by Paul Costabile with musical sidekick Sal The Voice Valentinetti and his band. The lineup includes Mark Normand, Paul Virzi, Tara Cannistraci, Manon Mathews, Nicky Smigs, Tommy Mitchell, Jakey Botch, Emily Wilson, The Conductor, and Joe Gaudet. The production emphasizes theater-like, in-the-moment entertainment with limited political content and surprise guests.
