How a single mom's life changed after she moved from California to Bangkok
""Mommy, thank you for moving us to Thailand. I'm just so grateful for this experience.""
""Moving abroad was something I always wanted to do, but I was scared,""
""I can cut my costs in half, if not more, moving abroad. What's keeping me here in the US? There's nothing,""
Donetta Barber moved from Fresno, California, to Bangkok with her nine-year-old daughter in July. They had previously taken two to three trips per year, but this was the daughter's first time in Thailand. Life in Thailand is slower and more affordable, allowing Barber to focus more on parenting. Barber had run an aesthetic and body-sculpting business in Fresno and managed hectic school drop-offs, pickups, and long work hours. A pandemic trip to Costa Rica and encounters with Americans living abroad convinced Barber that relocating was possible. A Bangkok community group, Adventures While Black, provided like-minded social support.
