"As a father, I am completely broken that the man who sexually assaulted my 14-year-old daughter, just four months ago, was accidentally released from prison onto the streets again, the statement said. The trauma and torment my daughter has suffered since this assault has really hurt myself and my family. She was slowly starting to get some of her confidence back, [and has] recently started seeing her closest friends and been back in school."
"For him to be wrongly released and walking the streets freely, just four months after carrying out two sexual assaults, only five weeks after being sentenced, all because of a system failure on Friday, is unbelievably irresponsible, the statement said, adding that the family felt massively let down and infuriated by the prison, the justice system, and the Labour government."
Hadush Kebatu was jailed in September for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old and a woman in Epping, Essex. He was accidentally released from HMP Chelmsford because of a system failure and remained at large for almost 48 hours before being arrested in Finsbury Park, north London. The victim's father said he is completely broken and that the family have been deeply affected by renewed trauma. The victim reportedly feared encountering Kebatu and being recognised after recently regaining confidence, returning to school, and seeing friends. The family said they felt massively let down and learned of the release from a reporter, calling the error unbelievably irresponsible.
