UK: 21 years in jail for Liverpool parade car rammer DW 12/16/2025
"You struck people head-on, knocked others onto the bonnet, drove over limbs, crushed prams and forced those nearby to scatter in terror. You ploughed on at speed and over a considerable distance, violently knocking people aside or simply driving over them, person after person after person. Your actions caused horror and destruction on a scale which this court has never seen before."
"as simple as the consequences were awful."
"I've just ruined my family's life."
A 54-year-old man, Paul Doyle, drove his minivan through a crowd of Liverpool FC supporters celebrating the club's 2025 Premier League title on May 26, 2025, injuring 134 people including children. He followed an ambulance through a road barrier, struck scores of people, ran over others, crushed prams and caused widespread panic before a bystander entered his vehicle and put it in park. Police ruled out terrorism as a motive. Prosecutors said he became enraged by traffic and road closures. Doyle was arrested at the scene and told officers "I've just ruined my family's life." He received a 21 years and six months prison sentence.
