"I'm joining the Green Party because I see an organisation that's serious about running our country in the long-term interests of all our people."
"Our economy isn't working for workers, it isn't working for small businesses,"
"is a mess and it's not the fault of immigrants"
"This is another example of the Green surge sweeping across the country."
Jamie Driscoll, former elected North of Tyne mayor, has joined the Green Party after leaving Labour and running as an independent in 2024. Driscoll finished second in the 2024 North East mayoral contest and raised over £150,000 for his campaign. He described British politics as troubled and said the economy fails workers and small businesses. Driscoll previously founded the Majority party and planned to stand in Monument ward at 2026 all-out elections. The Greens have recently won seats on Newcastle City Council and currently hold four councillors amid no overall control at the council. Driscoll has also been linked to the Your Party donations controversy.
