2 women charged after allegedly assaulting Market Basket staff who caught them shoplifting lobster meat, ribeye steaks
"Both Rahjane's and Olivia's actions annoyed and inconvenienced the shopping public with their fighting and tumultuous behavior,"
"They screamed and directed racial and demeaning words at [a store employee]. Those words included 'p-ssy and [the n-word]', which were loud enough for everyone in the front of the store to hear, causing an offensive condition without a legitimate purpose."
Olivia Byrd, 37, of Quincy, and sister Rahjane Byrd, 28, of Hyde Park, allegedly concealed high-priced items including lobster meat, prime ribeye steaks, and truffle butter at a West Bridgewater Market Basket on Oct. 26. When a worker approached during checkout around 5 p.m., the sisters became argumentative, screamed obscenities, and allegedly assaulted two employees. One employee struggled with Rahjane over a bag, causing her to fall. Olivia allegedly struck an employee with her purse and slapped him; Rahjane allegedly struck another with the bag. Bystanders filmed the encounter and surveillance footage captured the incident. Officers stopped the women while leaving the store and multiple charges were filed.
