Heightened immigration enforcement actions in and around Chicago reduced Halloween and Day of the Dead festivities and led to at least one parade cancellation. Residents in largely Latino neighborhoods reported fewer parades and growing fear. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker requested a pause to Operation Midway Blitz during the Halloween weekend to protect children. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem rejected the request and defended continuing operations to keep communities safe. Clashes occurred near a middle school in Evanston, with video showing an agent restraining and striking a man and authorities reporting arrests after a hostile crowd confronted agents.
