""I have no visa. I am banned, obviously, from the United States, and if you want to see me, you know where to find me.""
Wole Soyinka, 91, had his U.S. non-resident visa rejected and believes the decision may relate to his recent criticism of President Donald Trump. The revocation letter cited that "additional information became available after the visa was issued," without specifying details. Soyinka said he would not be reapplying and described the matter as a principle about decent treatment for human beings. He previously destroyed his green card in 2017 in protest of Trump's inauguration and joked that his green card "had an accident" eight years ago and "fell between a pair of scissors." The U.S. Consulate in Lagos referred questions to the State Department and cited visa-record confidentiality.
