San Jose State looking for some home cooking vs. Hawaii on Saturday night to help revive bowl hopes
"This is a pivotal game for our season, head coach Ken Niumatalolo said. We still have a lot to play for, but you got to start with one (win)."
"I'm going to do everything in my power to go out there and give my guys everything because I know if they were in my position they would do the same thing, Scudero, the former Archbishop Mitty High star, said during practice this week. Whether you have to take a play off or go to the tent, you better get your butt back out there. That's the way it is, it's football."
San Jose State enters Saturday's home game against Hawaii with a 2-5 overall record and 1-2 in Mountain West play, needing a strong finish to extend its bowl streak to four seasons. The Spartans surrendered fourth-quarter leads in consecutive losses at Wyoming and Utah State; four of five losses have been by seven points or fewer. Both wins were narrow and occurred at home, most recently Oct. 3 versus New Mexico State. Hawaii is 6-2 (3-1) and sits third in the conference after being picked to finish seventh. Quarterback Walker Eget and receiver Danny Scudero practiced all week and were not on the injury report.
