That comes as federal food assistance hangs in limbo amid a government shutdown and food banks brace for unprecedented need. Nearly nine in ten Democrats said they were spending more at the grocery store. While fewer Republicans agreed, a majority (52%) still said they were spending more money. Fifty-nine percent said they were spending more on utilities, while just 6% said they were spending less."
A national poll found a majority of U.S. adults report spending more on groceries and utilities than last year, with about seven in ten citing higher grocery costs and 59% citing higher utility costs. Nearly nine in ten Democrats and a majority of Republicans reported increased grocery spending. Fifty-nine percent of adults blamed Trump a great deal or a good amount for current inflation; 20% of Republicans blamed him a good or great deal while 48% of Republicans said 'not much.' The Consumer Price Index showed slower price growth in September, but staple goods like beef and eggs spiked and utilities are up nearly 12% year-over-year. Fifty-eight percent said tariffs hurt the economy.
