Vibe Coding Makes You a Bad Designer
"Vibe coding is no longer an abstract concept; it's a modern-day reality. Google says 75% of new code is now AI-generated. Many product people (designers and developers) use vibe coding tools daily. Vibe coding helps us work fast and efficient, but it also radically changes the very foundation of the product design process."
"With so much hype around AI tools, many people treat AI as a universal solution for all problems. The truth is AI reduces the cost of execution, but it does not reduce the need for judgment. If you skip the design review phase and simply use what AI generated for you without refinement, you will likely end up with a very generic design full of many visual and functional defects like the one I'm sharing below:"
"Mobile onboarding flow design generated by Claude Design."
Vibe coding is increasingly common as AI generates most new code. Product teams use AI tools to move faster and improve efficiency, but this changes how product design is approached. Overreliance can weaken core design skills because fast production is mistaken for good design thinking. AI lowers the cost of execution, yet it does not remove the need for judgment. Skipping design review and accepting AI output without refinement often results in generic designs containing visual and functional defects, including issues seen in AI-generated mobile onboarding flows. Many AI tools also cannot reliably generate the full range of design quality needed for real products.
