Workers for Xbox studio Double Fine are forming a union - Engadget
""We appreciate that Microsoft has taken a neutral approach and agreed not to interfere in any way with worker's rights to organize unions," the labor union said. The workers of Double Fine are following in the footsteps of other Microsoft-owned developer groups that have unionized in the past."
Double Fine, an Xbox first-party studio, filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board on May 7 to form a union with the Communications Workers of America. The petition covers all 42 regular part-time and full-time employees. Workers requested voluntary recognition from Microsoft and also pursued an NLRB election petition to secure union representation. The CWA said the studio’s decision aimed to preserve and extend commitments to creative excellence, diversity and inclusion, and worker quality of life. The CWA also stated Microsoft took a neutral approach and agreed not to interfere with workers’ rights to organize. The move follows unionization efforts at other Microsoft-owned studios, including Blizzard and ZeniMax.
