Capital One Arena is undergoing an $800 million, multi-phase renovation to upgrade athlete facilities, the building exterior, concourses, concessions, and other fan-experience areas. Monumental Sports & Entertainment has indicated final renovation work is targeted for summer 2027. Ted Leonsis said the organization would hope to be considered for an NBA All-Star Game and would love to host an NHL All-Star Game. DC has not hosted an NHL All-Star Game, and the last NBA All-Star Game in the area was held in 2001 at the MCI Center.
