Ted Leonsis would like to host NHL and NBA All-Star games at Capital One Arena after completing renovations
"“When our building is up and functioning, I would hope we'd be considered for an NBA All-Star Game,” Leonsis said. “The NHL All-Star Game - we'd love to be able to host it.”"

"Phase 4 of the renovations, which includes “major exterior and interior renovations,” is set for this summer. Phase 5, work addressing the “interior remodeling and premium amenities,” will take place during the 2026-27 season, and Phase 6, the “final interior improvements and Grand Pavilion completion,” will occur during the 2027 offseason, which early renderings noticeably featured a statue for Alex Ovechkin."
Capital One Arena is undergoing an $800 million, multi-phase renovation to upgrade athlete facilities, the building exterior, concourses, concessions, and other fan-experience areas. Monumental Sports & Entertainment has indicated final renovation work is targeted for summer 2027. Ted Leonsis said the organization would hope to be considered for an NBA All-Star Game and would love to host an NHL All-Star Game. DC has not hosted an NHL All-Star Game, and the last NBA All-Star Game in the area was held in 2001 at the MCI Center. Renovation plans include major exterior and interior work in summer 2025, interior remodeling and premium amenities during the 2026-27 season, and final interior improvements and Grand Pavilion completion in the 2027 offseason.
