"He said the agency has deployed boats, a helicopter and surveillance aircraft to search for the missing. As of now the remaining victims have yet to be identified, and search operations are continuing, Mohamad Shukri added. Malaysia is home to millions of migrants from poorer parts of Asia, many of them undocumented, working in industries including construction and agriculture."
A search and rescue mission is underway after a boat carrying 37 undocumented migrants sank off the western coast near Pangkor Island. Local fishermen rescued 23 people, including 16 men and seven women, and survivors were handed over to authorities for further investigations. Fourteen others are believed missing. Authorities were alerted early Monday by a fisherman who found survivors floating at sea. Two maritime enforcement vessels, assisted by marine police, the navy, and local fishing community members, are searching the area. The migrants reportedly departed from Kisaran, Indonesia, on May 9 and traveled toward multiple Malaysian destinations. Boats, a helicopter, and surveillance aircraft are being used, and search operations continue while remaining victims are yet to be identified.
