The U.S. ordered a blockade of sanctioned oil tankers bound for Venezuela, intensifying economic pressure on President Nicolás Maduro's government. U.S. forces seized an oil tanker off Venezuela's coast following a regional military buildup. The U.S. alleged Venezuelan oil revenues fund drug trafficking and other crimes and said the military presence will continue until Venezuela returns oil, land and assets claimed as stolen. The Pentagon referred questions about the announcement to the White House. Venezuela's government described a sustained campaign of aggression, praised national resilience, vowed to defend the homeland, and reported strikes on boats in international Caribbean waters.
