"The Warsaw Uprising Mound Park is the Fourth Nature refuge created on an anthropogenic hill. For years, this site served as a repository for the debris from Warsaw after the city was destroyed in World War II, gradually giving rise to an artificial hill that now stands 35 metres above the surrounding flat and marshy landscape."
"After the landfill was closed in the mid-1960s, the hill became overgrown with vegetation that, over time, transformed into a ruderal "forest"."
Warsaw Uprising Mound Park is a public space created on an anthropogenic hill formed from debris left after Warsaw’s destruction in World War II. The site accumulated waste over years, producing an artificial mound rising 35 meters above the surrounding flat and marshy landscape. After the landfill closed in the mid-1960s, vegetation grew over the hill and gradually developed into a ruderal “forest.” The project establishes the fourth “nature refuge” at the location, shaping the landscape into a park environment while preserving the hill’s transformed ecological character. The park is designed for public use and integrates landscape transformation with the existing topography.
